S - Clara, Doctor
Doctors have been working on the front line of the pandemic since day one. Effort, dedication, sacrifice… their work has saved many lives in recent months, and they continue to give it their all in this second wave. For this reason, this group is one of the essential protagonists in the homage of the artist Fontcuberta to solidarity during the pandemic.
Dr. Clara writes in sign language the letter S of the word SOLIDARITY.
O - Núria, elder
Seniors are some of the most affected by Covid-19. In this pandemic, they are showing us exemplary strength and resilience in the face of difficulties and illness. For those who are no longer here, for those who suffer from it today and for all those who have overcome it, Joan Fontcuberta’s collective work pays homage to them.
Mrs. Núria writes in sign language the letter O of the word SOLIDARITY.
L - Núria, mother
Families became the core part of our lifes during confinement. Work and education, games and fears coexisted for weeks between four walls, building bonds and memories that will last. But at the same time, we have stopped embracing parents, aunts and grandparents. Therefore, those who despite the distance and adversity have made their bond stronger, can not miss this tribute.
Núria, mother, represents the letter L. Because families have been an example of SOLIDARITY, strength and love in these most difficult times.
I - Kids
The children's ability to adapt was demonstrated from the beginning, and they continue to show it to us day by day.
The confinement and their education in the middle of the pandemic is a sign of its strength. They are the letter I, because during these months they have taught us more than once how to survive with a big smile.
D - Aziz, street vendor (Sindicat de manters)
The pandemic also highlighted the need to strengthen the social cohesion. The Sindicat Manter of Barcelona helped the society from the outbreak of the pandemic. Its workshop helped make PPEs at the time of greatest medical need.
This project is an example of effort and perseverance to achieve a better future. That is why Aziz, the spokesman for the Sindicat Manter, represents the letter D of the word SOLIDARITY.
A - Núria, ambulance driver
Transporting people with coronavirus is a high-risk job, so the job of ambulance drivers is crucial in rescuing people.
Today we vindicate and pay tribute to them in this work of collective solidarity by Joan Fontcuberta.
Núria is the letter A. Because her job is all about SOLIDARITY.
R - Laila, shopkeeper
Closed shops, empty streets and silence. The most shocking images of the first weeks of the pandemic will not be erased from our memory. We won’t forget either the suffering and effort of all those shopkeepers who, day after day, continue to reinvent their businesses so that this country has a dignified future.
Laila, a shopkeeper, chooses the letter R from the word SOLIDARITY in the great mosaic by the artist Joan Fontcuberta.
I - Ramon, artisan
With their hands, their tools and their ingenuity they are able to create. In a world that was emptied overnight, their skills did not stop. The pandemic has left in a difficult situation many crafts that before the disease were already struggling to survive.
Our SOLIDARITY and our recognition are also dedicated to them. Ramon, a master craftsman, writes the letter I for this work.
T - Vanesa, nurse
Their voice, their hands, their love... For many Covid-19 patients, the nurses were, and still are, their only contact with reality, their ray of sunshine in the midst of the storm.
An honorable job in turbulent times. A profession dedicated to the care of society. Vanessa represents this group and also the letter T of this solidarity work.
A - Jordi Cuixart
23 hours a day locked in a cell. One lockdown within another lockdown.
Condemned for defending freedom and democracy. Jordi’s strength is admirable and transcends the thickest walls.
That’s why the president of Òmnium Cultural, with the letter A, couldn’t miss Joan Fontcuberta’s #ElGranMosaic.
T - Dolors, teacher
Closed schools and distance learning. The world of education has experienced a forced revolution in the midst of the pandemic. The whole educational community poured in from the first second to try to not leave any kid behind.
Today, teachers continue to work with all the added difficulties: teaching is a universal right, and their efforts make it possible.
Dolors, a teacher, writes the letter T, which concludes the word SOLIDARITAT (SOLIDARITY).
